Hundreds gather for cheese-rolling mayhem as Double Gloucester daredevils risk life and limb

Dozens of daredevil competitors risked broken bones today by hurling themselves down a hill - in pursuit of a rolling cheese.

The bizarre annual Cheese Rolling event sees contestants throwing themselves 200 meters down a steep hill to try and catch an 8lb Double Gloucester.

The winner of the ancient race, held for hundreds of years on Cooper's Hill in Brockworth, Gloucestershire, is the first to catch the cheese before it reaches the bottom.
