Cow goes AWOL in Germany!

The hunt for a missing cow has made front page news in Germany.

August is the month when politicians, businessmen and journalists traditionally down tools and head to the beach, leaving worried editors with reams of blank pages to fill.

In Germany they are doing that with news of Yvonne, a cow that went AWOL from her farm in deepest Bavaria in May.

But when German tabloid Bild published a front page plea for her safe return, it was a sign that the so-called silly season is well and truly upon us.

The newspaper has offered a 10,000 euro reward for information that leads to Yvonne’s capture.

Farmers have even roped in Ernst – a bull – in the hope he might appeal to Yvonne’s carnal instincts and tempt her out of the woods.

The cheeky cow even managed to evade a posse of hunters and vets armed with tranquiliser darts earlier this month.

The game of catch-me-if-you-can looks set to drag on. For now, the only place you can be sure of encountering Yvonne is on a Facebook fan page set up in her honour.
