Near-Death SeaWorld Accident Shown in Newly Released Footage
Newly released footage from 2006 reveals a moment when a killer whale almost kills its trainer. Veteran trainer from Sea World is dragged under water by a 5,000 pound killer whale. The victim, Ken Peters then 39 is dragged under water, helpless to the power of the massive creature that he had trained for years.
Kasatka was a star of Sea World at San Diego appearing in many performances. This footage reveals a different side to the otherwise trained and friendly whale. It is seen holding Peters under the water and dragging him like a rag doll- but as a minute passes, she releases him.
Peters narrowly escaped the killer embrace of the whale but adamantly states that he believes if the whale really wanted to kill him she would of. The incident has come under the spotlight in light of the fatal incident at Sea World Orlando in 2010; a trainer there was killed by an 11,000 pound killer whale.
In response to the case at the time Sea World asserted that they did not know killer whales could in fact be a fatal threat to humans.
